HARRISBURG – A pair of grants awarded today will support business expansion within the 106th District, ensuring the local economy benefits from greater investment and access to resources, according to Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin).
“Both Hidden Still Spirits and Mary’s Health & Fitness have impressive plans for expansion,” Mehaffie said. “These are locally owned businesses that have identified Dauphin County as a desirable place to plant roots and grow, ensuring they play a continued role in the community for years to come.”
Mehaffie announced Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants of $500,000 for Hidden Still Spirits and $1.1 million for Mary’s Health & Fitness LLC.
Hidden Still Spirits is the largest producer of Pennsylvania craft, straight bourbon whiskey. Founder David E. Stein and his business partners overhauled the former Hershey Co. recycling facility, which was vacant and in disrepair for 25 years before being renovated to accommodate distilling, an eatery and a tasting room.
Mary Schaefer Driscoll started Mary’s Health & Fitness in 2014 by offering classes on a grass field in the Hershey area. Since then, she expanded into a studio and a training center, where youths and adults can get professional guidance on nutrition, sports psychology and recovery.
“It’s really about fitness for all ages, and we’re bridging the gap from injury back to the field or back to work. The training center is really a facility we don’t otherwise have in central Pennsylvania, as we’re teaching not only how to work out but why,” Driscoll said, saying she intends to use the grant for building upgrades at the appointment-only training center on Bullfrog Valley Road in Hummelstown.
RACP grants support the design, acquisition and construction of regional, economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. They are administered by the Office of the Budget.
