HARRISBURG - Rep. Thomas Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) released the following statement in response to the decision to begin the process to close the Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station.
“I’m disappointed the decision has been made to close the plant. I have over 100 employees of Three Mile Island living in the district I represent in Dauphin County who will lose their jobs. My thoughts are with those families at this time as they contemplate their futures.
“And not only will those families be adversely impacted, but there will also be a negative economic impact on many local businesses, Lower Dauphin School District and the state in terms of the loss of affordable, clean energy and tax revenues generated from the plant over the past four decades.
“As a member of the Senate-House Nuclear Energy Caucus, I recognize the importance of nuclear energy and Three Mile Island’s contributions in particular. I will continue, through my role as a state lawmaker and member of the caucus, to investigate ways in which we can sustain and advance energy policies in the Commonwealth to provide the best energy production strategies possible.”
