Mehaffie Encouraged by Education Focus in Governor’s Budget
February 5, 2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget plan for the 2019-20 fiscal year, which he presented to the Legislature Tuesday:
“I think the governor set the right tone today, and we have a lot of shared goals heading into the 2019-20 budget season. I am looking forward to reviewing the language more closely, but overall, I think we are heading in the right direction. I was happy to hear that this proposal does not call for any new or increased taxes, which is great news for the taxpayers.
“I was really glad to hear the governor talk about the importance of properly funding education at all levels, but especially early childhood education programs and the importance of starting the learning process early for kids. Getting them ahead from the start is something I’ve been very passionate about since my first term. I’m excited to learn more about the new initiatives the governor talked about today.”
