Mehaffie’s Bill Provides for Frontline Workers
July 31, 2020
HARRISBURG – Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) introduced a bill this week to expand paid sick leave to essential workers excluded by the federal Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
Mehaffie’s House Bill 2777 aims to fill the gap and grant two weeks of paid sick leave to essential workers, including those in the health care and service industries. Some of those workers were not covered by the federal legislation.
“Paid sick leave helps workers take care of their own health and protects customers, clients and coworkers from the potential spread of COVID-19. It is important to ensure our essential employees can continue to serve our communities, particularly the elderly, in a safe manner,” Mehaffie said.
Mehaffie called for quick action on House Bill 2777.
