HARRISBURG – More than $86,000 in grant money will be coming to eastern and central Dauphin County’s hard-working first responders under the PA Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, according to Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin).

Six fire companies in the 106th District are recipients of the grants administered by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The money can be used for facility upgrades, equipment purchases or repair, debt reduction, education and public outreach, training, or recruitment and retention.

“Our first responders, most of whom are volunteers, sacrifice their time and talents to keep our communities safe. We all owe them so much,” Mehaffie said. “I’m happy to announce these grants to support them.”

Grants awarded within the 106th District are:

Grantville Volunteer Fire Co., $15,000
Hershey Volunteer Fire Co., $15,000
Hummelstown Chemical Fire Co. No. 1, $13,089
Lower Swatara Volunteer Fire Department, $15,000
Middletown Volunteer Fire Department, $15,000
Londonderry Fire Co. No. 1, $13,335

The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of State Fire Commissioner.
