Grant Supports Road, Sidewalk Improvements, Mehaffie Says
March 26, 2024
HARRISBURG – A $588,493 grant announced today will help Hershey Lumberyard LLC make road and sidewalk improvements along North First and L streets in Derry Township, according to Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin).
The Multimodal Transportation Fund grant supports redevelopment of the former Hershey Lumberyard into short-term housing for employees and recent graduates associated with Milton Hershey School as well as Hershey Entertainment and Resorts. The project is designed to be pedestrian friendly for those accessing shops and restaurants in town.
“Hershey is already well regarded as a walkable and bikeable community. The streetscape improvements being made using this grant will further enhance that reputation,” Mehaffie said.
Hershey Lumberyard LLC is a joint venture between Hershey Trust Company and Benchmark Real Estate.
“Hershey Lumberyard LLC is proud to partner with Milton Hershey School and Hershey Entertainment and Resorts on this amazing initiative that will bring continued revitalization to this segment of downtown Hershey,” said Mike Callahan, representative of Hershey Lumberyard LLC.
Multimodal Transportation Fund grants distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets.
