Quest Continues for State Candy
In late 2021, eight teenagers from Council Rock School District in Bucks County talked to me about introducing legislation to name Hershey’s Kisses the state candy of Pennsylvania. The concept would be to add a state candy to the list of state symbols that includes the state animal (white-tailed deer) and state flower (mountain laurel).
Ever since, I’ve been working with the students, who are now high school seniors, to make this happen and recognize the important role of Hershey’s Kisses.
When I addressed the House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee this week (video linked above), I wanted to convey that the story of Hershey’s Kisses is one of manufacturing innovation, philanthropy and global name recognition. The committee sent House Bill 1030 to the full House for its consideration.

Game Commission Announces Changes Affecting Hunters
The Pennsylvania Game Commission recently announced its 2025-26 hunting and trapping seasons and bag limits.
Changes include an extension for the firearms, antlerless deer season statewide from Dec. 26, 2025, to Jan. 24, 2026. Additionally, the archery bear season is being shortened from three weeks to one week.
The Game Commission has lifted hunting restrictions on Clemson, Sweigarts and Hoovers islands in the Susquehanna River.

Life Jacket Requirements in Place
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) reminds anglers and boaters that even as warmer temperatures arrive and the spring season begins to bloom across the Commonwealth, the annual cold weather life jacket requirement remains in effect through April 30.
From Nov. 1 through April 30, boaters are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket while underway or at anchor on boats less than 16 feet in length or on any kayak, canoe, or paddleboard. The requirement applies to all Pennsylvania waters and violators are subject to fines.

Wilsbach Distributors Celebrates Earth Day
Wilsbach Distributors, headquartered in Lower Swatara Township, unveiled its new fleet of electric vehicles Tuesday as part of an Earth Day celebration.
Wilsbach started by scrapping seven of its oldest, diesel-powered trucks to replace them with EVs. It will ultimately replace 32 of them.
Three charging stations are supporting the conversion to EVs.
Wilsbach made a $3.3 million investment toward carbon neutrality. Its efforts were supported by two state grants.
