Lower Swatara Township to Undergo Municipal Planning, Mehaffie Says

August 28, 2026

HARRISBURG – More than $56,000 awarded to Lower Swatara Township will help the Dauphin County municipality modernize operations and ensure it is on strong footing for many years to come, according to Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin).

Mehaffie authored Act 6 of 2019 to rename the Strategic Management Planning Program that featured Lower Swatara Township’s grant funding in its latest round of allocations.

“As a former township commissioner myself, I’ve long recognized how important both contingencies and foresight are when ensuring robust, comprehensive services for local governments,” Mehaffie said. “I’m thrilled my home township is taking advantage of this grant program and commend former Gov. Tom Wolf and current Gov. Josh Shapiro for long supporting the Strategic Management Planning Program.”

Pennsylvania has more than 2,500 municipalities across its 67 counties. Local municipalities like boroughs and townships provide government services such as snow removal on roads close to home.

The Strategic Management Planning Program is designed to help municipal officials develop multi-year financial plans and establish financial objectives. The program announced almost $1.5 million in grants this week.
