Mehaffie Announces $1 Million Grant for Derry Township Transportation Project

March 26, 2019

HARRISBURG – Derry Township has been awarded a grant of $1 million to help with a transportation project designed to improve traffic flow along Rt. 322, Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-Dauphin) announced today.

Specifically, the grant will assist the township with the widening of Fishburn Road to allow for a left turn lane and other roadway improvements, as well as the relocation and signalization of Sand Hill Road.

“The intersection of Fishburn and Sand Hill roads sees a lot of congestion as a result of the increased traffic coming and going from the medical center,” Mehaffie said. “Route 322 gets backed up and it all compounds, creating frustration for travelers, commuters and residents. The goal of the project is to help alleviate stacking issues and improve traffic flow during peak commute times.”

In addition, a bike path will be constructed on Sand Hill Road.

The funding comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides grants to encourage economic development and provide safe, reliable transportation for Pennsylvania residents.
